      Gate balancing ensures all cavities in a multi-cavity mold fill simultaneously.

      Why It Matters:

      • Unbalanced fill causes overpacking in early cavities, short shots in late cavities
      • Higher reject rates and longer cycle times

      Manual Balancing Method:

      1. Run short-shot experiments at 80-90% fill
      2. Measure fill patterns
      3. Weld shut the fastest-filling gate, recut to smaller cross-section
      4. Iterate until all cavities fill within 5% of each other

      Flow Analysis:
      Simulation predicts imbalance before cutting steel. Adjust gate size, runner diameter, and layout.

      Melt Rotation:
      Even geometrically balanced hot runners have "natural imbalance" from shear-induced temperature variation. Spiral mixing elements solve this.

      Practical Tips:

      • Add 10-15% extra runner length for future balancing
      • Document each iteration
      • For >32 cavities, consider staged filling
